Gaye’s jewelry collection features spiritual medallions that are inspired by ancient Orthodox Christian icons created in the 13th to 15th centuries. For many centuries the icons’ primary purpose was to adorn cathedrals and churches.
In 1980 the Russian Orthodox Church grew concerned that the ancient iconswere deteriorating with age, without a plan for preservation. So the Church began to work with a famous Russian artist to preserve the images. After years of painstaking work, the beauty and spirituality of the original icons were saved in the form of exquisitely crafted medallions.
Primarily Russian Orthodox Christian priests wear the newly restored and intricate medallions. Their beauty and spirituality soon became widely known. Slowly they became more widely available. However, the medallions are still very hard to find outside of Russia.
Gaye spent months researching the the icons and the hard to find medallions. Now shedesigns jewelry specifically made to feature and compliment them. She provides a translated explanation of the intricate engravings and the verbiage found on front and back of each item.
All the medallions are made out of sterling silver and 24K gold gild. Some items are also enameled.
